The Sound of Philadelphia era was built from the genius of Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff, and Thom Bell known as The Mighty Three. As the architects of Philadelphia International Records, they created a unique musical style that blended lush orchestration, soulful vocals and powerful messages of love, pride, empowerment and community. Backed by the legendary MFSB rhythm section and recorded at Philadelphia's Sigma Sound Studios, this sound became the foundation for artists such as The Spinners, The O’Jays, The Stylistics, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass, The Trammps, The Intruders, Archie Bell and the Drells, McFadden and Whitehead, Instant Funk and G.Q. The influence of this sound reached far beyond Philadelphia, shaping the music of artidsts such as Barry White, Al Greene, The Whispers, Kool & the Gang, The Gap Band and Earth, Wind & Fire.
